Margarita Fernández Zavala (San Juan, Puerto Rico, 1949–)
Visual artist, professor, curator and art researcher.
She obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Humanities with a concentration in Art at the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras campus. Later, she continued her studies at the San Carlos Academy of Plastic Arts of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, master's studies in Puerto Rican Studies at the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture, and a Master's Degree in Art Education at New York University.
She founded and presided over the Association of Women Artists of Puerto Rico. She was Rector of the School of Plastic Arts of Puerto Rico of the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture and of the Bayamón campus of the University of Puerto Rico. She has curated numerous retrospective exhibitions and solo exhibitions. In 2004, she was a member of the international team of curators of the 1st San Juan Poly/graphic Triennial in Puerto Rico. From 2005 to 2010, she was the systemic accreditation coordinator for the museums of the University of Puerto Rico, and a member of the work team of the Museum of Contemporary Art.
Fernández Zavala has given art lectures and published numerous articles in magazines and books. She won the single prize in drawing in the Plastic Arts Contest of the Puerto Rican Ateneo (1983).
Aaron Salabarrías Valle (San Juan, Puerto Rico, 1964–)
Painter, printmaker, photographer, installation artist and graphic designer.
He studied engineering at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez campus, before entering the School of Plastic Arts of Puerto Rico, from which he graduated with a Bachelor's Degree with a concentration in Printmaking. He obtained a Master of Fine Arts degree from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, New York. He has worked as a printer in artists' workshops, and participated in numerous exhibitions and events, locally and internationally. Salabarrías Valle has received several awards in printmaking and graphic design in Puerto Rico.
