Araceli Ortiz-Azancot
Graphic designer.
She obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of the Sacred Heart in Puerto Rico. She began her continuous practice in the field of graphic arts as an assistant in the workshop of Puerto Rican artist Myrna Báez. Due to her interest in book arts, she pursued short courses and seminars at the Center for Book Arts in New York, with artist Consuelo Gotay, with artist Lorenzo Homar, with artist Hedi Kyle, and at the University of Alabama.
From 1989 to 2011, she enriched her appreciation and knowledge of book arts by studying the permanent collection of La Casa del Libro Museum Library. She served as coordinator and teaching resource for the educational program of La Casa del Libro, where she organized workshops and short courses in manual printing. Since 1991, she has been director and graphic designer of Letra Impresa, a design and publishing studio.
Throughout her career, Ortiz-Azancot has designed various publications and posters. She has also designed several children's books and created artist's books. She has been responsible for the research, design, and installation of multiple exhibitions, as well as several exhibition catalogs and their graphic material. Between 1994 and 2003, several of these publications won first prizes and honorable mentions in the American Association of Museums' Annual Publications Competition.
