Engraver, painter, muralist, draftsman, cartoonist, calligrapher, and athlete. He played a fundamental role in the development of the Puerto Rican poster, and was part of an artistic generation that would use art to create images that would affirm the Puerto Rican spirit.
In 1928, after emigrating with his family to New York, he studied at the Art Students League of New York (1930), and at the Pratt Institute of New York (1939-1942). He worked as a jewelry designer for Cartier while studying at the Brooklyn Museum Art School with distinguished artists, such as the Mexican Rufino Tamayo and the American William Baziote.
In 1950, Homar returned to Puerto Rico, where, together with Rafael Tufiño, José Antonio Torres Martino, Félix Rodríguez Báez, and other artists, he organized the Centro del Arte Puertorriqueño (Puerto Rican Art Center). A year later, he began working in the Division of Community Education (DIVEDCO), assuming the direction of the graphic arts section in 1952. In 1957 he became director of the Graphic Arts Workshop of the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture, which he directed until 1973. In these workshops he trained generations of prominent Puerto Rican artists, including Antonio Martorell, Myrna Báez, and José R. Alicea.
He participated in numerous solo exhibitions in Puerto Rico, the United States, Latin America, and France. Throughout his life he received a large number of awards and distinctions, among them: honorable mention in graphic arts in the Ateneo Puertorriqueño competition (1956), first prize in historical painting from the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture (1957) and first prize, Biennial of Children's Book Illustrations, Bratislava, Czechoslovakia (1971).
